There is no way I could live the "Campaign" Life!<br />
<br />
As you know, I am applying for a Grant through Chase Bank's MainStreet Grants. It's a grant designed for Small Businesses who want to expand and it requires 250 Community Votes to show that the business is serious about their intention and that they have a loyal fan base.<br />
<br />
So for the past Month I have been Campaigning for your Vote. Yours, Mine, ANYONE with a Facebook Account. I started with nice little reminders like this:<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.63636302948px; line-height: 20px;">Because of your voting, sharing and supporting we've reached 25% of the 250 Votes we need!!! Thank You! Your Vote shows the Judges that you love what we do and that you want to see North Country Rustics Continue and to Grow! Haven't Voted Yet? Please Vote Here:</span><a href="https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949" rel="nofollow nofollow" style="background-color: white; color: #3b5998; cursor: pointer; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.63636302948px; line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949</a></blockquote>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_iX-zAjIlf9AGxA1ZAOcoYwyZ3gyRlZzuBsACAFaHOmViobUv3k9pkAb5AXCxDEQA3zuffOKDvbfzb9zKS8XweeXQu5tGtwf6rZJ6o5jQRv2Nt55mt-t0HcfZ04CFAtftLZUlQo_fx60/s1600/Vote.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_iX-zAjIlf9AGxA1ZAOcoYwyZ3gyRlZzuBsACAFaHOmViobUv3k9pkAb5AXCxDEQA3zuffOKDvbfzb9zKS8XweeXQu5tGtwf6rZJ6o5jQRv2Nt55mt-t0HcfZ04CFAtftLZUlQo_fx60/s1600/Vote.jpg" height="291" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then a bit more urgently when I realized the deadline was only 8 days away and I wasn't even half way to the 250 I needed!</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.63636302948px; line-height: 20px;">HALFWAY THERE!!! To be eligible for the Chase Small Business Grant we NEED 250 votes ~ and we're nearly half way there! I know many of you have already voted and I am so grateful! Please continue to help us make our goal by Liking, Commenting, and Sharing!</span><a href="https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949" rel="nofollow nofollow" style="background-color: white; color: #3b5998; cursor: pointer; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.63636302948px; line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949</a></blockquote>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then that deadline clock started haunting my dreams... As it is I have "Captain Hook" Syndrome (an unreasonable dislike for loud clicking clocks) so my posts became even more intense!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Voting is Quick, Easy and Secure ~ Please Vote and Share! Then my Rustic Friends, Long Lost Childhood Friends, Community Groups and my Family started Demanding Votes on my behalf too! Which was incredibly moving and made me remember that I'm not all alone in this world. There are people who love me and want to see my dreams come true. Maybe that explains the mushy turn of my next post!<br />

Much to my amazement ~ This post received 21 Shares in less than 24 hours! Taking us almost to 200 Votes!<br />
<br />
And today, I threw my pride out the window and begged for votes! I asked my friends, family, aunts, uncles, cousins all to vote! To make their spouses and children vote! If they had voted I asked them to share AGAIN! Yes, I became completely obnoxious! If it weren't strictly against the rules I would've started offering Free Cookies for Every Vote!<br />

Look at that photo! It's bright and garish ~ Almost like an advertisement for a Used Car!!! And it worked ~ In 7 Hours it received 20 Shares and 14 votes! With Only 36 more votes needed I'm hoping to be nearly done with this Campaigning! I honestly don't know how Politicians do it or WHY they do it! And maybe that's a good thing!<br />
<br />
So what other life truths did I learn ~<br />
<ul>
<li>First Friends are Lifelong Friends! I've been awed by how many of my childhood friends not only voted but shamelessly and incessantly shared my posts. Friends that I was inseparable from once in my life but haven't seen in 10, 15, even 20+ years. And out of the blue they are there for me like we're still passing notes behind the teacher's back. I'm amazed and so profoundly grateful.</li>
<li>Family Ties Bind! My family has always supported my dream, my uncle let's me invade his workshop on a regular basis, my cousin listens to my constant highs and lows from this wacky business but... They are often SILENT in their support. They vote but they don't make a big show of it by Liking the Post too! It's a giant guessing game where I'll never know which cousin voted and which didn't. Until the next family reunion! LOL</li>
<li>Online Voting Contests are not designed for small towns. Our Facebook page has over 1100 Likes but I've struggled to get 250 Votes for my Application. Why? Because Rural Areas don't have access to "just passing by" foot traffic. Our community is tight knit but widespread. News travels quickly if a married couple has a fight in the grocery store but it's a bit slower paced for "internet" news! </li>
</ul>
<div>
Still, at the end of the day I have learned so much! And I am grateful for every vote and every single word of encouragement. I hope that I can make it to the next round of the Grant. I dream of the expansions to the workshop and the addition of a retail space. It would be amazing to have all those dreams come true in one fell swoop but if not... I won't give up. I'll keep working hard, taking tiny steps towards those dreams and Either Way ~ I hope that you'll stay with me through this journey!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNpuROpMf6R9SagO-mH17OSRuThkzGChJ_ZvpXvtprNDuKU7dBChOGT68l4kbEdnm7wFkwJwcCTRjyneC9i7PY4zHBFg1A0RsHbdfJPNyX0SXL6MyqA9TZiL18gjI6n4PLSsP6DSVGyeI/s1600/Help+Us+Grow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNpuROpMf6R9SagO-mH17OSRuThkzGChJ_ZvpXvtprNDuKU7dBChOGT68l4kbEdnm7wFkwJwcCTRjyneC9i7PY4zHBFg1A0RsHbdfJPNyX0SXL6MyqA9TZiL18gjI6n4PLSsP6DSVGyeI/s1600/Help+Us+Grow.jpg" height="400" width="342" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You've heard me say many, many, many times that North Country Rustics is my dream. I love it nearly as much as my children, almost as much as hubby ~ And in truth, that is saying something because I live and breath for those four people.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, dreams are complicated, wondrous, difficult, and amazingly fragile.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have enjoyed an amazing amount of support ~ It's why I call you all my Rustic Friends. I am astounded everyday by how many people like my doors, carvings and art. I love writing my blog. I love writing our Newsletters. I love our Facebook and Pinterest Pages. And most of all, I really love the challenges of creating custom pieces and hope that I can continue to do so for the rest of my life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, there are some business challenges which I do not enjoy. Currently, my workshop is in my basement which is problematic when carrying lumber up and down a full flight of stairs. In the workshop I have gathered a mismatched collection of hand-me-down tools. They are hard working tools but they all have quirks ~ Like my belt sander that is ON and never shuts off until it is unplugged from the wall. Or my table saw that used to be adjustable but now the blade is permanently all the way up ~ Yes, this is a safety hazard and it is why I refuse to use the table without a second person to help me. And my biggest workshop challenge is LIGHTING! My basement has no windows and I have put in as many fluorescent work lights as possible but still I struggle to see the details when I stain and paint. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But the challenges don't stop in the workshop ~ my kitchen table becomes "Shipping Central" every time an order needs to go out. Which wouldn't be a problem if I was shipping small items but our doors are bigger than my table! It requires me to lift and move the door a dozen times just to prep a door for shipping! It works, and until recently, I thought it worked well but I've had doors damaged twice in recent months. I put my heart and soul into every door and it breaks my heart everytime one is damaged so I need to upgrade my packaging which means I will now have to carry the wrapped doors back to the workshop to build a "crate" system around the doors and then carry them back upstairs. I'm getting tired just thinking about it!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I can make it work ~ I will make it work! Still, a girl dreams...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And this girl dreams of a Retail and Workshop space where my Clients and Rustic Friends can see their projects as I work. With Windows. I dream of tools that are 100% safe and set up properly. I dream of tools I don't own yet ~ such as a Planer (I currently use my very generous Uncle's in his workshop 30 miles from my home), a Foredom Power Carver and a Power Chisel, and a dust collection system, and well, let's just say the list goes on...</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But as much as I like to dream I know that on my own I will never be able to make all those dreams come true because even the most successful woodworking business usually just breaks even. So why do it? For the same reason as every other starving artist in the world ~ Because I LOVE IT! Or maybe I'm addicted. Either way ~ I cannot give it up.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So my business is at a crossroads. I can either keep trudging along with the challenges and setbacks or I find a way to fund my dreams and expand the business I love. That's how I found <a href="https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949">Chase Bank's Mission: Main St. Grants for $150,000</a>! A grant to help small businesses rise up to the next level. Grants are not the "Free Money" everyone assumes they are. It takes hard work and dedication to earn a grant and for this one it requires Community Support. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To show that Community Support they require 250 <a href="https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949">Votes</a> ~ Currently, North Country Rustics has 95. Which means <a href="http://www.facebook.com/northcountryrustics">North Country Rustics</a> needs 155 of our most dedicated, most appreciated Rustic Friends to Please <a href="https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949">Vote</a> ~ Share with your Friends and Family ~ Tell them why you Love Rustics ~ And ask them to <a href="https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/6949">Vote</a> too!</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thank you ~ Truly ~ for Caring about North Country Rustics and this silly girl's Rustic Dreams!</div>

Unfortunately, I have to admit that the lows were mostly my fault. I'm new at owning a business, a rapidly expanding business and I got behind and couldn't catch up. No matter how hard I tried. Hard Lessons learned the Hard Way. But it wasn't all bad ~ I created some of my best work to date, found new ways to carve and create, and was inspired to push my art further.<br />
<br />
I love custom orders and this summer I had quite a few. The doors turned out well despite the repeated setbacks and I hope that they will be enjoyed for many years.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And many of our custom orders were for local "Rustic" Weddings ~ These were great fun! I love knowing that these Log Card Holders will hold all the well wishes for long happy marriages. And when the wedding day is over they can be repurposed to hold a flowery potted plant inside the happy home.</div>

<br />
I was also asked to carve this sign to Welcome guests to the Wedding and the other side Welcomes guests to the Reception. I was so pleased that the client's liked the way the hand carved sign turned out. Many people expect hand carving to be as precise as the laser "carved" signs. If you want or expect a precise font then please choose laser carving because hand carving is not be precise but it is much more artistic.<br />

I've also been taking every opprotunity I can to better my pyrography skills. I love woodburning because I can make it as simple or as complex as I'd like. And I can work on it in the wee morning or nighttime hours without firing up the loud machinery and disturbing the sleeping household. LOL</div>

I'm going to end this post with my FAVORITE Summer time projects because it was for my local community. I am so proud of my community, of the people who truly care for each other, who look out for one and other during these hard times. The past few years have been extremely stressful for my family as we dealt with my husband's sudden unemployment after 19 years and the worry of starting anew at nearly 40. But our community gathered around us, helping us and encouraging us and it's only because of that spirit that we are now able to enjoy some new found stability and hope. So you can see why these signs were just a small part of my thank you to this amazing place!<br />

There is special savings in this month's Newsletter and I can't share it with the world until AFTER the sale ends ~ But I CAN tell you all about it!<br />
<br />
I am Celebrating my 20th Wedding Anniversary! I was 16 when I met the love of my life. 17 when he proposed. 18 when we were married. Believe me when I say, we endured many skeptics but we also cherished the support we received from our Families who believed in us. We didn't "HAVE" to get married. We CHOSE to get married. And although the road has been rocky I wouldn't change a single step in our journey. It's brought us three beautiful children, an amazingly close knit family, and a marriage that has stood the test of time.<br />
<br />

<br />A good marriage takes dedication, hard work, patience and stubbornness. Because when it gets rough ~ And it will ~ You have to be stubborn enough NOT to give up on each other. Patient enough to wait for the good things to happen again. You have to work together to accomplish together. And You have to be dedicated to each other's happiness.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After 20 years I can say that I am truly grateful to have made the choices I did, traveled the journey together that led us here. From that feeling of Gratitude I decided to "Share the Love" with my Rustic Friends! So for my Facebook and Blog Friends I am offering a 20% Discount on EVERYTHING ~ Including Custom Orders! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But that's not all!!! (I know I sound a bit like a Game Show Host but in my defense ~ I am incredibly happy!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">Today, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/northcountryrustics">North Country Rustics</a> hit a new Facebook Milestone ~ 1000 Likes!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I keep pinching myself. How did this happen? How did 1000+ people find out about me and my creations? Who knew that there would even be 1000 people in the world who think that carvings, paintings, and screen doors were worth liking! It may not be a Miracle ~ But it certainly feels like one to me!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was just a Mom who felt very overwhelmed by my daughter's Epilepsy diagnosis and a little lost with no direction to my life when I found carving. I instantly found my creative calling and it has provided hours of therapy, escape, and enjoyment to my life. My Rustic Hubby thought I was a little nutty when I impulsively decided to take my hobby and start my own business. But in the <span style="background-color: white; line-height: 16.799999237060547px;"><big><u style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">1,146 days</span></u></big></span> since then I have loved learning about business, about friendship, and about my own strengths and weaknesses. I saw a quote this morning that seemed amazingly fitting ~ "Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about CREATING yourself." I know now that I've created more than just Screen Doors and Carvings ~ I've Created ME! I didn't just follow my dream... I found it and chased it down. I work every day for hours on the computer, more hours in the workshop and someday ~ I will figure out how to be organized at it all. Today, might not be that day ~ But it is still one freaking awesome day!</div>

So many amazing moments squeezed in between so many disheartening moments. Medical Issues continue to plague my household with hospital trips, ER visits and a myriad of new worries to accompany all the old ones! However, I've been working and am hopeful that I can share these new creations with you soon. Until then can I share this month's newsletter with you?<br />

Yesterday I delivered a custom order for a very special client! I could write a thousand words about how wonderful he is ~ but he hates all things Social Media so I will respect his Right to be Anonymous. <br />
<br />
He is in the process of completing a 2 year Gazebo project! No, he isn't a slow builder ~ he is meticulous in his craftsmanship. So imagine my delight and fear when he announced that I was going to carve panels for his pride and joy! The fear that bolted through me was nearly as fatal as a heart attack! But I took a steadying drink and said, "Sure ~ Whatever you want!"<br />
<br />
Here's the problem (and it happens to me a lot) HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WANTED!!! Normally I send emails with design templates for approval but he didn't want to see designs! Normally, I ask clients what colors they prefer: vibrant, natural, stains only but he didn't care! Ugh! Here is a piece of advice ~ If you want it done in a reasonable amount of time ~ MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS otherwise, you'll be waiting on a very indecisive ME for MONTHS!<br />
<br />
But finally, yesterday all ten of the carvings were completed and ready for delivery! Each carving had a 6 step process of designing, hand drawing, hand carving, sanding, pyrography (a.k.a. woodburning), and painting. The designs are varied and based on the varied interests of the client. It is my first attempt at panel carving and I found it thoroughly enjoyable and yet so very nerve wracking! Overall, I think the carvings turned out to have a folk arts feel that is rather unexpected. The Client is happy and that is all that really matters to me.<br />

Somehow, I ended up with two of me ~ Which made it very difficult to remember which me I needed to be to login to my blog. So today, I asked myself to add myself as an author. Then I gave myself a promotion to administrator! Yeah, me. Then I made the old me commit blog suicide! If this sounds very confusing to you then you can understand why I've been avoiding the job since 2011. Finally I found a Youtube video which explained it to me. So Me, Myself and I did what we needed to do!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, that login will be painless I hope to start blogging again on a regular basis. Never mind those last 4 posts when I promised you the very same thing! I'm going to start today by sharing my latest newsletter! This is a test ~ A Vision Test! LOL</div>

I'm sorry for the long absence again. I don't know if my chaotic lifestyle is really suited to blogging or not. But I enjoy writing so when the urge strikes I enjoy blogging. And life has been extremely chaotic recently. Since I'm not particularly fond of online complaining by myself or anyone else I tend to avoid posting ~ I would hate to sound whiny or negative. But when you avoid posting...sometimes you forget to post the good things too. And there have been some really great things for our little business. So I am going to get caught up with all the Good News.<br />

<span style="text-align: left;">Maybe it's because I'm not the only one who has noticed that buying small, local, hand crafted just makes more sense than buying junk from big box stores and then buying it again in just a few months. Mother's Day has come and gone with the usually flurry of flowers and greeting card advertisements. I'm sure most Mom's were just as happy with their gifts as I was with mine (Chocolate Breakfast in Bed! Heaven!!!) or the gift I gave my Mom ~ A hibiscus plant she'd been longing for. But now that they day has past it leaves me wondering about the lessons we learn and the lessons we teach as Moms.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We all have this idealized thought of Motherhood. The baby sweetly cooing in our arms. The angelic faces sleeping in their beds. Visits to Grandma for fresh baked cookies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCBSz-_5pYPfVRhmDGsF0r0PjEiU8zHDLOqL-xyQcpaIxiB4nFqMHOKJROYq6HUIJs-UCUJQfpjH4dxCMPkBwBVXzTUI3YICImMoOLgSKFcsiS7b3NcFwNbk_WEdL1rKQ22n4w80AVhyQ/s1600/Mother's+day+ad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCBSz-_5pYPfVRhmDGsF0r0PjEiU8zHDLOqL-xyQcpaIxiB4nFqMHOKJROYq6HUIJs-UCUJQfpjH4dxCMPkBwBVXzTUI3YICImMoOLgSKFcsiS7b3NcFwNbk_WEdL1rKQ22n4w80AVhyQ/s320/Mother's+day+ad.jpg" width="249" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And sometimes you do get lucky and show up at Grandma's after baking has occurred. But who could have envisioned Grandma playing Wii with the Grandkiddies? Who could have understood the stresses that the Modern World would put on Mother's?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRfcxKN9wPc6HK2NDBLP1Duap5HPdr_wru4BTc_-NwNrErK0if4y0LCWb3OIYZOnH8ZaJ0SArjX_H-1K-fX4gkADqofEiX0W0a2nS0UkOfo_FpROhvXl1e0izD6K-ehtoVusQswpNLCEw/s1600/Motherhood.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRfcxKN9wPc6HK2NDBLP1Duap5HPdr_wru4BTc_-NwNrErK0if4y0LCWb3OIYZOnH8ZaJ0SArjX_H-1K-fX4gkADqofEiX0W0a2nS0UkOfo_FpROhvXl1e0izD6K-ehtoVusQswpNLCEw/s320/Motherhood.png" width="301" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Okay, so maybe it's always been stressful. Maybe we were warned. I don't remember a warning... but Maybe. So how do I as a Mom still teach the values I want my children to have, how do I as a child value the lessons my Mother taught to me? It's a balancing act worthy of the Circus but it is something I attempt everyday. Because being a Mother doesn't exclude anyone from being a Child. I belong to my Mother (no matter my age ~ 37 for those keeping track) and my children belong to Me (no matter their ages: 9, 13, 16 ~ Whew!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In the End ~ That is the lesson I want to teach. Belong. Find where your heart calls home and then Belong. It's so simple, and so indescribably difficult. To Belong gives you yesterday and tomorrows. To Belong gives you encouragement and protection. To Belong is a constant challenge and an amazing reward.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I hope that you find your place to Belong. Today and Everyday.</div>

I've recently become very taken with all things over at <a href="http://www.folklifestyle.com/" target="_blank">Folk Magazine</a> so I am super excited to join <a href="http://www.folklifestyle.com/2013/02/cherished-inheritance.html" target="_blank">Folk Magazine's 2013 Community Journal Challenge</a>. As usual I'm a little late jumping on the bandwagon but... better late than never right?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This week's challenge: Cherished Inheritance.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hubby and I have filled our little cabin on the hill with inherited items ~ some might say we've overfilled it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCt72sVCRwa7pu9hKDE6Zh5hGRKDvfJnbZC9soiomXaGFpv81io5yXnsaIC3z0ggViiWvwRwKBhSsyb97KJRS5fkDMH1zkb8rERr17euAA7BJcOG4x96zdYOBUPBFGEGLb8xIKSJe3lxk/s1600/NCR+in+snow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCt72sVCRwa7pu9hKDE6Zh5hGRKDvfJnbZC9soiomXaGFpv81io5yXnsaIC3z0ggViiWvwRwKBhSsyb97KJRS5fkDMH1zkb8rERr17euAA7BJcOG4x96zdYOBUPBFGEGLb8xIKSJe3lxk/s1600/NCR+in+snow.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So the Challenge here: Choosing Just One to Cherish! Hubby has a Moon and Stars nick knack collection from his Grandmother that holds a special place in his heart. He has all the saws, axes, and peaveys that his grandfather and his father handed down from their days of logging the Adirondacks ~ before the invention of motors and chainsaws. He guards those tools like most people guard their money! But those tools are connection to his roots that he treasures. Some wives might get a bit irritated but I have just as many "treasures" as he does.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVc7jUtTOgFFPUe6MrU7riOdSsgEwSLyOwUSmBPiTUdgzs6t-l7AtN-zMR3PJn-V52iftIKRJUarjkIEIe9FLm5Bp_5BrWdAl7OpFHi-bUo4L9WdvmpCddwkL6lHW3iMNU87el0Mgr2YE/s1600/Moon+and+stars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVc7jUtTOgFFPUe6MrU7riOdSsgEwSLyOwUSmBPiTUdgzs6t-l7AtN-zMR3PJn-V52iftIKRJUarjkIEIe9FLm5Bp_5BrWdAl7OpFHi-bUo4L9WdvmpCddwkL6lHW3iMNU87el0Mgr2YE/s1600/Moon+and+stars.jpg" height="320" width="262" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUk_rscM3pF7a0jbQDeYsWyRcvwP3P9oWqdRRCR6aVMZ1VU7CCVytyqaHdurnF0J4Gb_-1ozqaOon8FK07zjPcbytUv3Qd47l_5AqEoV5gnmybZAHFxBRUAkksoTQgyJyrVfB3gZg9RW8/s1600/Saw+on+Porch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUk_rscM3pF7a0jbQDeYsWyRcvwP3P9oWqdRRCR6aVMZ1VU7CCVytyqaHdurnF0J4Gb_-1ozqaOon8FK07zjPcbytUv3Qd47l_5AqEoV5gnmybZAHFxBRUAkksoTQgyJyrVfB3gZg9RW8/s1600/Saw+on+Porch.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Like my rocking chair! I rocked all of my children in that little rocking chair, just as my mother had rocked me, and her mother rocked her. Generations of Love have been handed down in that chair and I guard it for the day that my grandchildren will be rocked to sleep in the comfort of that old rocking chair. When I first thought of cherished inheritance it was my rocking chair I thought of... but overnight I remembered a tiny little bell that I had only very recently inherited and my eyes filled with tears yet again.</div>

My Love Story with this bell begins when I was just a child. My grandparent's house sat up on the top of the biggest hill I had ever seen. When we would visit the uphill drive seemed like an adventure for our old car and the old farmhouse seemed like a castle to me. As a child I was sure it had a hundred windows! My grandparents raised 7 children in that large farmhouse including the youngest ~ my mother. I would scramble out of the car and look at the barns and garages waiting to be explored with Grandpa and the garden in back looked like a magical fairyland to my curious eyes. But as tempting as those adventures seemed I would always head for the house first...To hear the bell.</div>

A parent's device to keep track of 7 kids coming and going. Over the years each child had mastered the knack of opening the door in just the right way to stop the bell from announcing their past curfew arrival but I loved opening the door as quickly as possible to get the loudest jingle from that little bell. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That bell sounded like happiness to me because I knew that just a few steps away I would be wrapped in the arms of my short and oh so sweet Grandmother. Grandpa would tousle my hair and get me a few M&M's from his candy dish. The kitchen was always warm and smelled like home cooking and inside the living room was a cupboard filled with games. It was a magical place ~ and the magic started with the happy jingling of that little bell.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My grandparents passed, the farmhouse was torn down to make way for a Wal-Mart. And the little bell was lost to me. This past spring my Aunt Rosie became ill and passed very unexpectedly a few weeks later. We were shocked and saddened by her death. My mother set to the task of sorting through Aunt Rosie's cherished inheritances and finding homes for all of her treasures. One day as I helped my mother sort through the keepsakes I lifted an old bell and heard that happy little jingle. The sound filled my heart with such happy memories during a time of such heartache. I held the bell to my heart as tears flooded my cheeks. My mother was taken back by my reaction to the bell she quietly said, "I wasn't sure you would even remember that bell." That bell was a symbol for me of our family's love for each other, of home, of peace. While it represents my past it also represents my dreams for the future. I hope someday that happy little bell will jingle over the door to a little North Country Rustics store. I hope that it announces the arrival of Rustic Friends and Treasured Family, and the comings and goings of my 3 children.</div>

Yuck! So I settled in yesterday with my pile of receipts and began the sorting. However, it wasn't long until I was sidetracked. Each receipt was a sale from my little "crazy as a loon ~ start a business in the worst economy ever" business! Certainly Donald Trump has nothing to fear from North Country Rustics but I am definitely more proud of my sales that he is of his. Each of my sales is designed and created by me or my talented hubby. Each piece is crafted with our client's wishes in mind. I was so overwhelmed by all the amazing clients we've had the privledge of working with last year that I've decided to do a photo journal of all of our 2012 projects. Each project was special, some were so unexpected, some were really challenging, but all of them were so much fun. Thank you my Rustic Friends!<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Success in Facebook is easy, right? Sure if you have a large company and marketing department. But small businesses are often 1 person operations and no single person is an expert at everything. We all need help. I've had a few people ask me to give them advice on how to be a Facebook Success. I've also offered advice to those who haven't asked ~ but it comes from a place of best wishes. I just want to share the things I didn't know when I started. Help others to avoid some common missteps. I don't know if everyone would consider my Facebook page to be successful but I have acquired a group of friends who actually like and care about my little <a href="https://www.facebook.com/northcountryrustics" target="_blank">business</a>. To me, that is success! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So here are 10 of my Common Sense Advice Tips and Tricks:</div>
<ul style="margin-top: 0in;" type="disc"><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Spelling!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>People will actually unlike your page if
you have misspelled words often.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It
makes you seem uneducated and unprofessional. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We all do our fair share but are easily forgiven
if it’s an obvious typo.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Too many
misspelled or incorrectly used words are noticeable.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If in doubt Google the word it’ll ask
you…do you mean? Then you’ll have the right spelling.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Welcome!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Yes, it does get repetitive but they
took the time to like your page so appreciate it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And their friends might see that you
welcomed her/him and they might join too.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Like!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You probably have favorite pages that
you’ve followed for years ~ Like that page through your business page.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And post on their timeline that you
have.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Don’t get carried away and do
100 in a day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My rule of thumb: 1 a
day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It keeps you looking sincere
and not like a spammer.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Comment!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Chances are you’ve got something to say
about posts from your favorite pages so “Like” the post and “Comment” using
your page.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s an easy way to get
Facebook links and to get noticed by people with similar interests to
yours!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But remember; if you can’t
say something nice…don’t comment at all!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>You don’t want to become known as negative!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Link! Link!
Link!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Facebook has a great shortcut
for links ~ when you type your business name you want it to turn blue so
type @yourbusinesspage <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>~ A box will
appear offering you choices of different pages…choose yours and voila ~
the blue link you’ve been waiting for will appear in the post.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You can also do this when you welcome
new pages to yours.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>BUT you can
only link once per page, per post.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Link
with preview!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you are leaving a
comment and you want to link back to your page copy the entire web address
of your page and paste it into the link.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>It looks ugly but after you post it will display a nice sized page
preview.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Post!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Why have a page if you’re not going to
post?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>3 times a day ~ that is the
magic number.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Too many more than
that and people will hide you from their newsfeed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also, they liked your page!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They want to see your product or
service!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not your Pinterest or
re-posts of other posts/status updates.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Post
about??? So what should you post about?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>You and your products/services with PICTURES!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Post a picture or a link with every
post.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It makes your posts much more
likely to be seen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Post Welcomes
once or (if you’ve had a very busy day) twice a day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Post about any events your attending, new
products, sales or promotions, location hours, blog pages you host,
etc.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It can sometimes be a
challenge to find new things to say but remember you have new likes that
didn’t see it before!</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Albums!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Organize your photos in easy to search
albums.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Use broad categories that
you can add photos to later.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This
was one area where I did it SO WRONG and then had to fix my mistakes!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I make custom rustic screen doors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So I made a new album for every
door.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This made it incredibly hard
to find all the designs that I had to offer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To fix the mistake I made one album
titled <a href="http://www.facebook.com/northcountryrustics?ref=tn_tnmn#!/northcountryrustics/photos_albums" target="_blank">Rustic Screen Doors</a>.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now all
my designs are in one easy to browse location.</div>
</li>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Patience!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You can rack up huge amounts of
followers/fans/friends on Facebook but it probably won’t happen
overnight.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>More importantly are
they really interested in your product or are they empty likes?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>An “empty like” gives you nothing in
return ~ no sales, no interaction, no feedback.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The whole goal of Facebook pages is to
be a part of their “social networking”.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Remember, be social.</div>
</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Good luck! And be sure to let me know if this was helpful in anyway.</div>

I have. The other day on Facebook I said ~ <a href="http://www.facebook.com/northcountryrustics?ref=hl#!/photo.php?fbid=464280553636023&set=a.156481204415961.38366.149716475092434&type=1&theater" target="_blank">"Reminds me Why I love this Rustic Life!"</a> ~ Suddenly I realized that I DO love my Rustic Life. But how does one become Rustic? For me it started when Baby #2 forced us to change our living arrangements. We decided if we were going to build we wanted to build a log cabin. After much planning and the birth of Baby #2 we finally started building our Cabin on the Hill.<br />

I have so many that it's hard to choose...Cookies, Christmas Get-Togethers, Mainstreet Christmas with my hubby and kiddies. But the one thing I cannot imagine going without is my Christmas Tree!<br />
<br />
Growing up we always had a real tree. Hubby always had an artificial tree. So after we were first married he convinced me that our house was too small for a real one. Eventually our family expanded and we outgrew our starter home. That's when we started building our log cabin. It was a long process that I may share with you soon. But today's story is about how I designed the whole cabin so that I could get giant Christmas trees!<br />
<br />
Like most cabins we have a great room/kitchen/dining/livingroom. All open! With an open loft over the kitchen. That leaves us with a ceiling height of nearly 20 feet! Which means I should get at least an 18 foot Christmas tree right? Well, 2 years ago I did manage to get a 16 foot tree and my hubby complained about back pain for a week! It was terribly heavy (I think it's because it was a blue spruce ~ Frasier Firs seem so much lighter) so this year I scaled back to a 13 foot Frasier Fir (nearly 15 feet in the stand - heehee) and I was all prepared to hate the "little" tree but... when I got it home, decorated, and lit... I fell in LOVE! <br />

Every order has been something new and exciting...and I am positively giddy when I think about how many Christmas trees will have a gift from my workshop underneath their decorated branches! No wonder Santa loves his job so much!<br />
<br />
And I have to say that I love mine! There are days with disappointments and worry but they are greatly outnumbered by days of unexpected joy! Like all of the support I got yesterday about the controversy surrounding my "Happy Holly Days" greeting. I was so worried that I had offended EVERY ONE of my customers, fans, and friends with my silly little greeting. I was so relieved to find out that I hadn't offended everyone and that some of my loyal peeps were glad to hear the season's greetings!<br />
<br />
Our motto here at North Country Rustics is: Inspired by Nature, Wildlife and Country Living. "Happy Holly Days" was my way of wishing everyone a little piece of nature in whatever their celebrations may be. I know most people don't get to spend as much time as I do in Nature but without it's beauty our celebrations would be all tinsel and very little heart.<br />
<br />
Speaking of nature...I was stomping around the woods yesterday finding the perfect piece of birch for one of these holiday gifts. And it was a beautiful day with temps in the upper 60's! It hardly felt like December at all! How can I get into the spirit if there isn't any snow? Especially when only a week ago North Country Rustics had this for a view...<br />

I often think it is because most people think of Custom as Expensive. I really try to dispel that myth. Our doors are almost always custom doors and they cost exactly the same as our "ready to sell" doors. With no extra charges EVER!<br />
<br />
But if "Custom" is scary then "Shipping" is <span style="color: #990000;">TERRIFYING</span>! I can't tell you how many times someone has asked me for a shipping quote only to say, "Is that all???? I thought it'd be twice that!" <br />
<br />
I don't know why people think it will be expensive ~ other than gas prices being what they are. Screen doors (even custom carved wooden doors) are fairly lightweight. The package is large but flat. UPS hasn't complained yet about the Ground Delivery Service on our doors and with Ground Shipping starting at $75 for most of the US neither have our customers!<br />
<br />
Because our doors are normally custom I don't usually keep any in stock but... this Lodge Style Buck Shot Door is Avaiable for<span style="color: #990000;"> Immediate Holiday Shipping</span>. He will fit any 36 x 80 standard door and is perfect for that hard to buy for hunter, nature lover, or cabin owner. <a href="mailto:northcountryrustics@gmail.com">Inbox</a> me today if interested!
